Upcoming Hotels in Siliguri: What's Coming to the Gateway of the Northeast

Siliguri has spent years wearing the label "gateway to the Northeast" — the transit point every traveler passes through en route to Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, or deeper into the seven sister states. But the city is no longer content being just a stopover. A wave of internationally branded hotel signings over the past two years shows major hospitality groups betting big on Siliguri as a destination in its own right, driven by its role as a commercial, trade, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) hub for Eastern India. Here's a look at what's in the pipeline.

1. JW Marriott Hotel Siliguri

The biggest headline in Siliguri's hotel pipeline is the arrival of Marriott's luxury JW brand. Announced through a partnership between CG Hospitality Global (a Nepal-based conglomerate) and Marriott International, the property will be set in the foothills of the Himalayas, around 10 kilometers from Bagdogra Airport. The hotel is expected to bring 150 rooms, four dining venues including a restaurant, a spa, a pool and 1,500 square meters of banquet space. It was signed as part of a broader three-property deal that also includes The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu and The Westin Kathmandu, with all three properties expected to open in 2031, adding nearly 450 rooms to Marriott's regional portfolio.

Why it matters: It's Marriott's first luxury-tier commitment to the city, signaling long-term confidence in Siliguri as a premium destination — not just a transit stop.

2. Radisson Hotel Siliguri

Radisson Hotel Group made its first move into West Bengal with the signing of Radisson Hotel Siliguri, partnering with the SBM Group. The hotel is expected to be operational by Q2 2028  and will be conveniently located close to Bagdogra International Airport, New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, and Siliguri Junction, giving it strong connectivity for both domestic travelers and visitors from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. Once complete, Radisson Hotel Siliguri will feature 150 guest rooms and spacious suites.

Why it matters: Radisson already operates in Guwahati, and this signing extends its Eastern India footprint directly into the Northeast's main transit corridor.

3. Holiday Inn Siliguri (IHG)

IHG Hotels & Resorts is bringing its mainstream Holiday Inn brand to the city through a management agreement with Four Vedas Hotels & Resorts, a joint venture of the Kaysons Group, Sagar Group, and Golden Goenka Group. The 111-room hotel is scheduled to open in 2027 and will incorporate the brand's Open Lobby concept, a multifunctional space for dining, working, and relaxation, strategically positioned in the city center. The property is designed to cater to the growing MICE sector, local business hubs, and leisure tourism, with three dining options, two flexible meeting venues, and a fitness center.

Why it matters: This is IHG's play for the mid-to-upscale business traveler market, banking on Siliguri's growing conference and corporate-event demand.

4. The Summit (Summit Hotels & Resorts' Flagship Luxury Property)

Eastern India's largest homegrown hospitality chain is making its first foray into luxury urban hospitality — and choosing Siliguri to do it. Slated for a May 2027 opening, the 100-room hotel will feature private balconies in every room, blending city convenience with resort-style indulgence. Designed by architect Vivek Singh Rathore, the property will double as the brand's corporate headquarters, fusing global design standards with regional cultural heritage.

Why it matters: As a domestic brand betting its flagship on Siliguri rather than a metro city, this signals real confidence in the local luxury market from within the industry.

5. Summit Gulma River Resort

Alongside its flagship luxury play, Summit Hotels & Resorts is also opening a more leisure-focused property in the Gulma area of Siliguri. The Siliguri property is expected to open on 15 August, overlooking the Gulma Tea Estate and a nearby river. It's designed for both leisure stays and small-scale events, offering a mix of standard rooms and studio-style accommodations with kitchenettes for longer stays, along with a restaurant, bar, spa, gym, and a banquet hall with capacity for around 150 guests, suitable for weddings and corporate events.

Why it matters: It fills a niche between hardcore business hotels and destination resorts — a tea-estate-adjacent property aimed at events and extended stays.

6. Taj SeleQtions Siliguri (IHCL)

The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has also set its sights on the city as part of a major eastern and northern India expansion with the Ambuja Neotia Group. Plans include Taj resorts in Sunderban, Darjeeling, Shimla and Rabong, and SeleQtions hotels in Kolkata and Siliguri, as part of a partnership that strengthens IHCL's presence in eastern and northern India and brings their network closer to over 40 hotels.

Why it matters: IHCL's SeleQtions brand typically signals a distinctive, design-led boutique property rather than a standardized chain hotel — a different flavor from the JW Marriott and Radisson signings.

The Bigger Picture

Taken together, these six projects tell a clear story: Siliguri is transitioning from a functional transit hub into a genuine hospitality destination. Siliguri holds immense significance as a commercial, transportation, and educational hub and serves as a gateway to Northeast India, and international groups are treating it as a strategic market rather than an afterthought. There are already three five-star hotels in Siliguri, and such high-class hotels with all luxurious facilities are helping bring more tourists to the region, according to industry voices in the local hospitality network.

With openings staggered from 2026 through 2031, expect the next few years to bring noticeably more choice — from tea-estate boutique stays to global luxury brands — for anyone passing through, or now, staying deliberately in Siliguri.
